The journey of Agnes Jebet Ngetich is one of the most inspiring stories in athletics.

Born on January 23, 2001, in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Agnes lost her father at just 12 years old. Her family was plunged into deep poverty, forcing her to leave school several times to help her mother burn charcoal and work on local farms just to survive.

She began running simply because school competitions offered something many children take for granted—a meal. Often barefoot and hungry, Agnes competed with incredible determination. In one regional race, she even collapsed from hunger after giving everything she had.

Her life changed when coach Ruth Jepchumba Bundotich spotted her talent while she was working on a farm and gave her the opportunity to train.

That single act of belief transformed her future.

The rest is history.

Agnes Ngetich trains under head coach Julien Di Maria (Kip Evans). She also continues to work with her long-time mentor, Ruth Jepchumba Bundotich, who first discovered and nurtured her as a teenager.
