THE RUN SHE NEVER FINISHED

Before the sun had risen, she tied her laces, as she had done so many mornings before. The world was still quiet, her family still asleep, and the road was waiting.

She stepped out carrying nothing but her breath, her dreams, and the rhythm of a runner’s heart.

She ran for peace. She ran for strength. She ran because, somewhere along the road, she found a part of herself that only running could reveal.

But that morning, the road became a place of unimaginable darkness. She left home as a mother, as a sister, as a friend, as one of us—

and she never came back.

A family waited. A door remained open. A pair of running shoes waited for feet that would never return.

Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, your final run was never supposed to be your final goodbye.

You should have returned with tired legs, a sweaty smile, and another story from the road.

Instead, you left us with silence.

But we will not let silence be the end of your story.

We will remember the woman who found peace in motion. The mother whose children waited for her. The runner who became part of a community that refuses to forget.

Today, when we lace our shoes, we carry your memory.

When our feet touch the road, we run for you.

When one runner slows, another will wait.

When the road feels lonely, we will remember that we are never truly running alone.

You went out chasing the morning, and though you never made it home, your footsteps remain behind—

in every runner who refuses to give up, in every mother who kisses her children goodbye, in every friend who says, “Let's run together.”

Rest peacefully, Tsontso.

Your run may have ended, but your footsteps will keep moving through us.

Run free, Sister. Run beyond the finish line.
